Through His Lens: A Birthday Tribute to My Dad

Dad holding me as a newborn

Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I owe that to my dad. He always had a camera in hand, whether it was a still camera or a video camera, making sure no family moment went undocumented. We used to tease him about his massive lens, calling it his “X-ray camera,” but in reality, he was teaching me how precious it is to capture memories.

Visiting the Newport Aquarium

Every occasion, every gathering—he was there, filming and photographing. One of my favorite memories is Christmas mornings at my Mommaw and Pappaw’s house, when he would shine a blinding light at 6 AM to record everyone opening gifts. It’s funny to think how much technology has changed since then, but his passion for preserving moments remains the same.

Visiting the guard base

When I first started my photography journey, he was there, guiding me through my very first photo shoot and standing beside me as I photographed my first wedding. His support and encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue this passion, and now, one of my greatest joys is getting to shoot weddings and work on projects alongside him. His love for photography is something we get to share, and I’m so grateful for that.

Three generations

Beyond the camera, he’s Mr. Fix-It, Mr. Tech Guy, an incredible husband, father, and the best Pappy.

Wedding day

Happy birthday, Dad! I hope your day is filled with love, laughter, and maybe a few camera clicks along the way. I love you!
